Last year, our very own Head of Operations, Michael Davies and his team cycled the New Forest (85 miles), Pilgrims 100 (100 mile), Mont Ventoux (150 miles), Ride London (100 mile) and South East Velo (100 miles) to raise money with his team for the Prevent Breast Cancer charity (PBC).
This year they were back on the road raising money for Manchester Tourette’s Support Group. Established 2 years ago to help and support adults, children and indeed entire families living with Tourettes, the group was the first of its kind in the North West and it now has a group of over 300 individuals directly receiving and requesting help through its Facebook group. In addition monthly meetings are held where an average of 70 people regularly attend.
Having chosen to cycle from London to Paris, the team will begin at the Cutty Sark in London and finish at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The overall distance is almost 300 miles climbing almost 8000ft, all of which was completed in three days.
The team were welcomed to Countrystyle’s Lenham facility as a well needed rest stop with drinks and food donated by Countrystyle in support of the team. After reaching Paris, the team raised £2,747. After a well-deserved rest, Mike commented: “The weather on the first day was warm and cloudy and then decided to rain hard for the duration of the ride to Dover. We had a nice (and needed) overnight stay after which we headed to Calais by boat for a hot windy day to Amiens.
“It was incredibly hilly and the hardest day of all. The third and last day of cycling was a low day for all of the team, with the wind and heat again but overall with sore legs, bums -in fact the whole body – we managed to make it to Paris.
“We visited some fantastic places but I must say after all the cycling I have done this was far the hardest purely because of the heat/wind and hills day after day.”
We wish the team a huge congratulations on their triumphant cycle and fundraising
