How We Recycle Green Waste
Green waste is collected by our fully licensed waste management vehicles on a regular pickup schedule or on an ad hoc basis.
Simply call us to let us know your bin is full. The waste is transported to our sister company, Envar, where it is processed through one of our composting systems.
All green waste is shredded and processed through our in-vessel (IVC) or open windrow composting systems, to be transformed into a nutrient rich PAS100 soil improver
Open Windrow Composting
Open Window Composting creates PAS100 compost.
Open windrow composting is a process where green waste is shredded, mixed, and placed into windrows. The windrows are turned on a regular basis to improve oxygen content, regulate temperature and to distribute moisture. After the stabilisation phase which takes an average of eight weeks the compost is ready for screening. The resulting product is a certified PAS100 soil improver used by farmers, horticulturalists, gardeners, and soil blenders.
- Waste is shredded, combined, and formed into windrows.
- The windrows are turned frequently to distribute heat to regulate temperature, improve oxygen content and to circulate moisture.
- Finally, the compost is screened to remove contaminant materials such as metals and plastics. This process grades the compost to determine its end use.
Composting helps divert organic waste from landfill and repurposes it into a quality soil improver. By selecting Countrystyle as your waste provider, you can rest assured we are sustainably handling your waste.
In-Vessel Composting
In-Vessel composting (IVC) is an advanced composting method.
This technique is primarily employed for managing the food waste element of incoming feedstock and specific organic materials, such as certified compostable packaging. The material is shredded and blended to create a homogenous mix. This mix is then transferred into one of our in-vessel composting tunnels, equipped with advanced features like an aeration system, temperature control, and wireless data logging probes. This facilitates controlled decomposition in accordance with EU composting standards and PAS100 requirements. Post in-vessel, the compost undergoes stabilisation by being incorporated into our open windrows. After the final phase of screening and grading, the resulting compost can be used in a range of commercial, domestic and agricultural applications.
- Aeration is required to provide microorganisms with the oxygen they need to break down materials.
- Temperature is controlled to achieve the optimal environment to accelerate decomposition while also killing off pathogens and weed seeds.
- Careful moisture control ensures optimal levels that are crucial for composting.
