What happens to the food waste we collect
All of the food waste we collect is transported to an Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plant, where microorganisms decompose the material in an oxygen-free environment and produce biogas. This process results in the capture of biogas, which can then be used to generate electricity and heat for residential and commercial use. It is what makes commercial food waste recycling worth separating out: the same material that would cost you money as general waste disposal instead comes back as energy.
