The Challenge
A busy retail centre needed more than a waste collector, it needed a partner
The Mall Maidstone is one of the South East’s established retail centres, serving thousands of shoppers daily across a diverse mix of fashion, food and leisure operators. Managing the waste generated across a site of this scale, from food court operators and restaurants to back-of-house retail operations, demands a reliable, efficient and environmentally responsible approach.
Countrystyle Recycling has delivered comprehensive waste and recycling services to The Mall for a number of years, building a long-standing relationship grounded in trust, operational reliability, and a shared commitment to reducing environmental impact.
"The Mall and Countrystyle Recycling share a long-standing partnership built on trust and sustainability, a reflection of our shared commitment to excellence, environmental responsibility, and lasting relationships."
The Mall, Maidstone
The Approach
End-to-end waste management, built around the demands of a retail environment
Countrystyle provides The Mall with a fully managed, multi-stream waste solution covering general waste, dry mixed recyclables, cardboard bales, pallets, food waste, and specialist hazardous collections. All materials are routed to the most appropriate treatment facility to maximise diversion from landfill and in line with Simpler Recycling legislation that came into effect in 2025.
General Waste
Countrystyle provide 35-yard compactors for the site’s general waste. All waste is collected and transported by Countrystyle to our dedicated waste transfer station in Sittingbourne. Skips provided on an adhoc basis.
Cardboard Recycling
On-site balers handle cardboard generated across the centre. Bales are collected and rebate values are monitored against current market rates and reviewed monthly, ensuring The Mall receives fair value for its recycled materials.
Food Waste Management
All food waste generated on site across the centre is handled as a completely separate waste stream. By separating out food waste from general waste, The Mall maximises landfill diversion and allows for food waste to be transformed into heat and power at a local AD Plant.
Specialist & hazardous collections
Hazardous waste is collected on request and managed to full regulatory compliance. Recent collections have covered WEEE cooling appliances, lithium and dry cell batteries, flammable paints, gas cylinders and more. Ferrous scrap metal skip deliveries are also managed on site.
"Our partnership with The Mall Maidstone is built on more than reliable collections — it's built on a shared commitment to doing things the right way. Year on year, we've worked together to reduce environmental impact, improve diversion rates and deliver a service the centre can depend on."
