The Partnership

A busy university spread across three campuses needs a waste service that works around the academic year

Canterbury Christ Church University operates across sites in Canterbury, Medway and Tunbridge Wells — spanning academic buildings, student accommodation, catering outlets and specialist facilities.

Countrystyle began working with  the University in 2017, and over nearly a decade the scope has grown to cover nine waste streams, 18 service points and over 100 containers across multiple campuses. A renewed six-year contract running to December 2031 reflects the operational confidence built over nearly a decade.

Managing waste across a multi-campus university estate is operationally complex. That complexity is what Countrystyle was brought in to solve.

"Countrystyle supports Canterbury Christ Church University in areas such as proactive waste solutions, changing legislation and best practice, zero to landfill, aiding in increasing recycling rates, as well as providing documentation required for our commitment to ISO 14001 and our Platinum Campus sustainability recognition."

The Approach

A whole-campus waste solution for a complex, multi-site university

Canterbury Christ Church University generates a broad and varied waste mix across its estate. Countrystyle designed and manages a whole-campus solution covering nine streams — from everyday recyclables to food waste, confidential paper and specialist WEEE — with collections scheduled around the academic calendar and building use.

"A contract renewal through to 2031 reflects something straightforward: consistent, compliant, campus-wide service delivery takes years of operational trust to build."
