Council Skip Permits

Placing a skip on your own driveway or private property doesn’t require a permit. A permit is only necessary when the skip will be positioned on a public road, pavement or verge.

We manage the permit process on your behalf. When booking, choose the road permit option and we’ll submit the application to Kent County Council Highways for you. The fee is £100 and covers a 2-week permit period. Make sure to allow at least 5 working days before your planned delivery – the council cannot fast-track applications.

Permit pricing is subject to change. Confirm the current rate at the time of booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only if the skip is going on a public road or pavement. Skips placed on driveways or private land don't require one. For road placements, a skip permit is needed from Kent County Council Highways. The cost is £100 and it covers a 2-week period. We handle the application for you - just select the permit option when you book and allow at least 5 working days before your delivery date.

Pricing varies by location and skip size. As a starting guide: a 4-yard skip from £190, 6-yard from £220, 8-yard from £250 and 12-yard from £355. All prices exclude VAT, are effective from January 2026, and may be higher depending on your specific location. Get a quote to confirm your exact price.

An 8-yard builders skip is the most popular choice for a full house clearance - it holds roughly 80 bin bags and handles most properties comfortably. For a single room or small clear-out, a 4-yard skip is usually sufficient. If you're clearing a larger property, such as one of the spacious Edwardian houses along the seafront, consider a 12-yard to avoid needing a second delivery.

Absolutely. We cover all of Herne Bay and the surrounding areas, including Herne, Beltinge, Broomfield, Greenhill, Eddington, Bishopstone, Reculver and Hillborough. We ask for a minimum of two working days' notice for all deliveries. Get in touch to confirm availability for your postcode.

Standard hire lasts 1-2 weeks. If your project runs longer, we offer extensions at £50 per week. Just let us know before your hire period ends and we'll extend it for you.
