We’re excited to announce the launch of our new coffee grounds recycling scheme in Canterbury! With the UK producing around 250,000 tonnes of used coffee grounds each year, we’re stepping up to help businesses in Kent do their part to reduce waste and turn coffee grounds into something beneficial for the environment.
Our new service is designed for cafés, restaurants, hotels, visitor attractions, and retail chains across the county. We provide businesses with 40-litre caddies to collect spent coffee grounds, which we collect weekly. The coffee grounds are then processed by our sister company Envar in Cambridgeshire and turned into nutrient-rich coffee pellets, perfect for gardeners and horticulturalists. These pellets will be available in garden centres next year.
By joining this scheme, local businesses can significantly reduce the amount of coffee waste going to landfill. Each tonne of coffee grounds we recycle saves 580 kg of CO2—equivalent to driving 1,400 miles in a family car!
Our CEO, Martin Heathcote, shared: “We can do more to protect our environment when it comes to recycling and repurposing materials, and this coffee ground project is a perfect example.”
We’ve already had fantastic feedback from local businesses like Café No35 in Canterbury, where owner Anna Carpenter said: “It’s great to be a part of this great initiative from Countrystyle that makes a difference to the environment. It was very straight forward to join the scheme and the dedicated caddy makes it really easy to recycle our coffee grounds. I’d encourage more businesses to take part.”
As we expand this service across Kent, we invite more businesses to join us in making a difference. Together, we can reduce waste, protect the environment, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
