Council Skip Permits

Placing a skip on your own driveway or private property requires no permit. You only need one if the skip has to sit on a public road, pavement or verge.

We handle the full permit application process for you. Choose the road permit option when placing your order and we’ll submit the paperwork to Kent County Council Highways on your behalf. The permit costs £100, covering a 2-week hire period. You’ll need to allow at least 5 working days before your planned delivery date – permit applications can’t be fast-tracked.

Permit pricing is subject to change. Confirm the current rate at the time of booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only if the skip needs to go on a public road or pavement. Skips placed on driveways or private land don't require a permit at all. For road placements, a skip permit is required from Kent County Council Highways. The cost is £100 and covers a period of up to 2 weeks. We take care of the application for you - select the permit option when you book and allow at least 5 working days before your preferred delivery date.

It depends on the skip size and your exact location. As a guide: a 4-yard skip starts from £230, 6-yard from £270, 8-yard from £300 and 12-yard from £400. All prices exclude VAT and are effective from January 2026. Get a quote to confirm the exact price for your postcode.

An 8-yard builder's skip is the go-to choice for a full house clearance - it holds around 80 bin bags, which covers most properties. For a single room or small bathroom strip-out, a 4-yard skip is usually enough. If you're clearing a larger family home in Singlewell or one of the bigger Victorian properties near the town centre, stepping up to a 12-yard can save you the cost of a second delivery.

Absolutely. We deliver right across the Gravesend area and the surrounding villages, including Shorne, Higham, Cobham, Chalk, Meopham, Istead Rise, Vigo, Sole Street and Painters Ash. Standard hire is 1-2 weeks. If your project runs longer, we offer extensions at £50 per week. Just give us a call before your hire period ends and we'll extend it for you - no fuss.
