The Partnership
A conservation charity with a complex site and a mission that comes first
Wildwood Trust is a registered conservation charity set across 40 acres of ancient woodland near Canterbury, Kent. Home to more than 200 native British species — from wildcats and otters to beavers and bison — the Trust combines a working wildlife park with a serious scientific mission: protecting and restoring Britain’s most endangered animals and habitats.
As a charity, every resource matters. The staff at Wildwood are animal keepers, conservationists, educators and researchers first. The time spent on operational logistics is time not spent on the welfare of the animals in their care. When Countrystyle Recycling began working with Wildwood Trust in 2017, the brief was straightforward: take full ownership of waste management across the site, so the Trust’s team never has to think about it.
Nearly a decade on, that relationship has deepened well beyond a service contract. Five distinct waste streams — from general waste and dry mixed recycling to food waste and animal manure — are managed across the site, keeping a complex, active wildlife facility running cleanly and compliantly, season after season.
"This is not simply a service contract, it is a partnership built on shared values. Wildwood Trust's work is genuinely world-leading, and it matters to us that we play a part in making that work possible."

The Approach
Every waste stream handled, nothing left to chance
Managing waste on a live conservation site is categorically different from a standard commercial account. Collections must be reliable and unobtrusive; schedules must flex around the rhythms of a working animal facility; and the waste streams themselves are genuinely varied, from visitor-facing recycling to specialist animal manure management. Since 2017, Countrystyle has built a service model that handles all of it under one managed solution.
Full-site General Waste Coverage
General waste is managed using both 1,100-litre wheelie bins and 40-yard roll-on roll-off containers, with treatment routed through energy recovery — ensuring material that cannot be recycled is still diverted from landfill wherever possible.
Dry mixed recycling, collected and processed
1,100-litre DMR bins are collected on a regular schedule with additional lifts arranged during peak visitor periods, ensuring recyclable material is sorted and processed to maximise recovery value across every stream.
Specialist streams managed correctly
CAT 3 food waste is collected in 240-litre bins and composted at Ridham, while animal manure is managed via 20-yard roll-on roll-off containers. Both streams require careful handling — Countrystyle ensures full compliance and consistent scheduling.
Investing in the Trust's mission
Countrystyle’s commitment extends beyond service delivery. We have donated bins and containers the Trust needed to operate effectively and sponsored a member of Wildwood’s animal care team to undertake a Level 4 Animal Training qualification — the highest professional accreditation in the field — allowing the Trust to focus its own resources entirely on conservation.
"The partnership between us here at Wildwood and Countrystyle recycling not only demonstrates how conservation and industry can work closely together but also turn everyday actions into meaningful protection of Wildlife and our planet. We very much look forward to the incredible difference this partnership will make."

Results in Detail
Consistent, compliant waste management, freeing a dedicated conservation team to do what they do best
Wildwood Trust’s team are conservationists, not waste managers. Across five waste streams and hundreds of collections a year, the brief has remained the same: keep the site running cleanly so the Trust’s team can focus entirely on the animals.
10 years of uninterrupted service
A relationship that began in 2017 and remains active today, demonstrating long-term trust and consistent delivery.
Flexible capacity for peak demand
Additional collections are arranged as needed during school holidays and peak visitor periods, ensuring the site remains clean and compliant regardless of footfall fluctuations.
244 collections in six months
Across all five waste streams, Countrystyle completed 244 collections in a single measured six-month period
Practical donations in support of the mission
Countrystyle has donated wooden bin enclosures, feed store drums and other practical items to the Trust. We have further contributions already in the pipeline, reflecting a partnership that extends well beyond the contract itself.
Five distinct waste streams managed
General waste, dry mixed recycling, food waste, animal manure, and additional ad hoc collections. All managed under a single contract.
Staff development sponsored
Countrystyle funded a Level 4 Animal Training qualification for Wildwood's Animal Behaviour Officer — the highest accreditation in her field — enabling the Trust to work towards a fully hands-off, stress-free care model across its entire animal collection.
