Clearing Buckland Mill for Homes England

How Countrystyle delivered a major demolition waste project ahead of schedule

The Approach

In October 2023, Countrystyle was appointed as Principal Contractor to remove over 4,000 tonnes of demolition waste from Buckland Mill, Dover for Homes England. The waste, stockpiled due to asbestos content, needed to be cleared to make way for further building works.

The project was scheduled for a 25-day turnaround, with strict compliance and KPI targets in place.

Project Management

As part of the Major Project Strategy, Countrystyle provided Total Waste and Project Management, including:
  • Waste disposal

  • Dust suppression

  • Security and welfare

  • Asbestos watching brief and disposal

  • Plant and operators

  • Soil sampling

  • Pedestrian walkways and CDM signage

  • Site inductions

  • Road sweeping

Our dedicated project team ensured all processes met compliance, KPIs, and performance targets throughout the works.

Results

The site was cleared in just 13 days, significantly ahead of schedule. All avoidable waste was diverted from landfill, asbestos and hazardous materials were handled in line with regulations, and construction waste was recovered for reuse within the industry.

Remaining waste was processed through picking lines for sorting, separation, and baling. This rapid turnaround allowed building works to start earlier than planned, delivering both time and cost savings for Homes England.

Our expertise in waste disposal and landfill avoidance played a crucial role in the success of this project. Working closely with the wider Heathcote Group, we were able to deliver a solution that exceeded expectations. This collaboration demonstrates our ability to go beyond standard requirements and provide innovative, sustainable outcomes for every project we undertake.
