Breaking New Ground: Our Otterpool Waste Transfer Site

As Kent’s largest independent waste management firm, our ability to service the whole of Kent is central to everything we do. We are committed to making investments that not only drive the growth of our business, but also deliver meaningful, positive outcomes for the communities we serve.

In February, we broke ground on a new Waste Transfer Site in the Ashford area, a significant milestone in our ongoing expansion across the county. Designed from the outset with both our operational needs and those of third-party customers in mind, the facility represents a purpose-built solution tailored to the demands of modern waste management.

By extending our operations into East Kent, we are able to offer a more flexible and responsive service to our customers, while also meaningfully reducing carbon mileage across our collection and haulage routes. The site further enhances our capacity to sort and segregate waste streams, maximising the volume of materials that can be reclaimed or recycled, and minimising what goes to general waste.

The facility sits on 3 acres and is equipped with two weighbridges to ensure we stay fully compliant and prepared for the upcoming digital waste tracking legislation due to be implemented in October of this year. Central to the site’s design is a state-of-the-art fire suppression system within the main waste sheds — a system we know well from its proven performance at our Ridham site. Fed by a 500,000-litre water tank at the rear of the building, the system uses infrared cameras to continuously monitor each bay for heat and smoke. Upon detection, ceiling-mounted water cannons are automatically deployed to suppress any fire rapidly and effectively. Having seen this technology perform exceptionally well at Ridham, we are proud to have the same level of protection safeguarding our staff, our customers, and our site.

Our new Otterpool site is a further demonstration of our commitment to building a more sustainable, efficient, and far-reaching waste management service for the people and businesses of Kent, now and into the future.
