This week, Countrystyle was delighted to be invited to partner with Charlton Athletic Community Trust and Bexley Council to deliver the educational segment within the HAF programme. We delivered an interactive presentation at the Peareswood School in Erith to over 30 children between the ages of 7 -12. This programme is intended to provide children in the local area with access to free holiday clubs to create a positive impact using sport, activities, and education.

This has been a great opportunity for Countrystyle to continue its education initiative and commitment to young people, by providing the educational segment for the HAF programme on sustainable recycling. Our enthusiastic team for the day included Jolene Simionato, Steven Nunney and Chloe Weller, who together gave a superb presentation about the importance of segregating waste and telling the story of the different waste journeys, including cardboard, food, glass and WEEE plus an introduction to the circular economy.

The workshops are approximately 30-40 minutes long and are used as an informative platform to explain the benefits of recycling, these sessions offer in-depth practical lessons challenging the students’ knowledge on what materials can be recycled and the importance of placing waste in the correct bins and how to recycle them as well as wider environmental issues around sustainability.

This dynamic interactive programme includes engaging videos and the opportunity for Q&A’s. We finished the session with a fun quiz to see what the children had learnt before surprising them with a visit from the Bexley Street Cleaning team who brought along the zero emission, electric street cleaning cart. There was  opportunity for some of the children to try operating the cleaning cart, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Our fact-packed presentation was a hit with the children – who really enjoyed the day – based on the positive feedback from all involved! We also wish to offer this to other schools and colleges across Kent, to continue our education message on the importance of recycling in the community and the effect this can have across the wider environment.

We would like to thank Charlton Athletic Community Trust and Bexley Council for inviting us to be involved with the fantastic Summer HAF programme! We had a brilliant day, educating the next generation about the importance of recycling and the journeys of waste. In addition to this, a big thank you to everyone who helped deliver such a fabulous, fun-packed day we are looking forward to doing it all again soon!
