As part of Countrystyle’s ongoing commitment to effectively managing the risk of fire at its main processing and treatment facilities at Ridham Dock (RDF/Plasterboard/DMR & C&I MRFs) and Ridham Sea Terminals (Wood Recycling & Workshop), over the 3 day period from 15th – 17th March 2019, Fire Training Specialists, Servatus Solutions, trained 10 Countrystyle staff (two teams of five) to the standard of a Fire Response Team.

The training took each team through the theory and practice of Defensive Fire Fighting skills using Countrystyle’s recently installed 6,000 litre per minute Armstrong diesel fire pump and newly acquired 45 mm and 70 mm x 25 m lay flat hoses with mid-range nozzles, portable monitors and in-line foam inductor.

Jamie Green, Lead Trainer of Servatus, said “the advantage of this level of training is that the Fire Response Teams use their own firefighting equipment for defensive firefighting in the operating environment they work in every day. The Countrystyle Board, Senior Management and Operators have all fully embraced the key elements of preventing fire and protecting their assets by investing in equipment and training.”

Stuart Butler-Gallie, Countrystyle’s Compliance Director, commented “we are delighted with the level of training provided by Jamie and his team at Servatus. Our Fire Response Teams have received professional and practical instruction over 3 days and the added advantage of doing this at our own site is very real, with the teams taking away practical learnings, such as how many hoses will be needed to reach each operating part of our yard in the event of a fire”.
