As well as manufacturing baled RDF, Countrystyle also delivers processed loose RDF to enfinium, the 525,000 TPA EfW plant located adjacent to Countrystyle’s Ridham facility in Kent.

What is RDF waste?

Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) is a fuel made from non-recyclable waste materials found in Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).

Once processed, the fuel is sent to Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities to generate heat, power, and steam.

RDF is considered a sustainable way to manage waste, diverting it from landfill and repurposing it into a cleaner energy source.

Creating energy from waste

Energy from waste offers many environmental benefits.

Through harnessing the energy potential of waste material (that has had all recyclates removed), waste streams provide a constant and sustainable energy source. Waste is diverted away from landfill, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and its overall impact on the environment. Using waste material as an energy source also helps to decrease reliance on fossil fuels.

Countrystyle Recycling supplies EfW plants within the UK and Europe that meet DEFRA’s targets for combined heat and power. All these facilities operate within the emission limits set by the European Union covered by the Industrial Emissions Directive to ensure the local environment is protected.

Is RDF the same as SRF?

Like RDF, SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel) is an energy source derived from waste, however, SRF undergoes a more refined process to form a superior energy source.

As a result it is more calorific, has a lower moisture content, and generates more energy. Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) is used in Energy from Waste Plants (EfW)  but due to its ability to generate a higher heat output compared to RDF, it is also suitable as a fuel for use in advanced thermal treatment plants and industrial processes such as cement kilns.
