The Challenge

dhm plastics is committed to achieving the highest standards of environmental performance.

Whether it’s reducing their carbon footprint or looking after their people and their community, dhm plastics continue to strive for real environmental results in everything they do.

Countrystyle was appointed as waste management and recycling contractor for dhm plastics in September 2009. dhm plastics produce a variety of waste streams such as wood, plastic, cardboard and general waste. Countrystyle’s objective was to reduce the amount of waste leaving site and to reduce dhm plastics overall waste management costs.

Our Role

Following an initial waste audit, Countrystyle set about putting procedures into place to recycle materials on site such as wood, plastic and cardboard.

Historically there were a number of 40 yard containers on site for general waste. An analysis on these containers was carried out and this showed that a large proportion of the waste consisted of recyclable material such as wood, plastic and cardboard. Just 20% of the waste in these containers was general waste.

As a result of the analysis, the general waste containers have been exchanged for smaller containers. By using smaller containers, staff are encouraged to separate the different waste streams ensuring a greater proportion of waste is recycled.

A roll-on roll-off container is provided for wood waste which is then sent to Countrystyle’s wood processing facility producing shredded wood for chipboard manufacture. For plastic and cardboard waste, balers have been installed on site. By incorporating these baling presses, cardboard and plastic collections are required less frequently meaning fewer vehicle movements which is better for the environment and ensures dhm plastics receives a cost effective service.

“We have worked with Countrystyle for a number of years and would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks for the service your company has given to us. With your help, our approach to waste management has changed. I would have no problem recommending Countrystyle to other businesses.”
